Helen Siukola Jancich, M.S.

Clinical Associate Professor, Instructional Technology
Graduate Studies in Education

During her teaching tenure, Helen has been a high school business/computer teacher, business education coordinator, technology/media director, and college/university instructor. She has enjoyed five years as a Clinical Assistant Professor at Purdue University Calumet (PUC) in the School of Education (SOE) Instructional Technology program, and was promoted to Clinical Associate Professor in 2008. Helen has taught a number of courses, both in-classroom and via distance education, including EDCI 260, Introduction to Computers in Education; EDCI 554, Production of Instructional Materials; EDCI 560, Educational Technology for Teaching and Learning; EDCI 591E, Designing Instruction for the Web; and  EDCI 566, Hypermedia Applications in Education.

As Crown Point Community School Corporation Technology Director, she procured over $1 million through grant writing. Helen has conducted numerous presentations and workshops at state and national conventions. During her 20-year tenure with the Indiana Computer Educators (ICE), she served as president, secretary, newsletter editor, and member of the conference committee. After 33 years of teaching, Helen launched Visions for Learning, Inc., and provided leadership in grant writing, educational technology planning, technology audits, and various workshops to Indiana schools during the tenure of the company. Helen also worked as a trainer for Scantron and provided web-based assessment solutions to K-12 schools in Indiana and Michigan. Helen continues to provide workshops at HECC and ICE Conferences.

As the former project director for MyTarget2, a web-based self-assessment tool that allows Indiana educators to learn how much they know about technology and how to use it effectively in the classroom, Helen had the opportunity to provide workshops and presentations throughout Indiana. MyTarget, originally developed in 2001, was re-launched in 2004 as MyTarget2. Other professional development projects include serving as a facilitator for IndianaNext, a project to provide Indiana superintendents and principals high-quality leadership development experiences and an understanding of the power of technology to support systemic change in their school districts.

Helen has been the chairperson of the SOE Graduate Studies Outreach Committee since 2005. In conjunction with this committee, she continues to develop outreach partnerships with Indiana schools and 6/8 service centers to provide EDCI 589, 590, and 591 professional development courses for teacher license renewal. She is also the chairperson of the new Master’s degree for Teacher Leadership committee and the K-12 Forum in partnership with the Northwest Indiana Education Service Center.
